About SUMM
The Sydenstricker United Methodist Men is open to men of the Church and community. The goal of the organization is to provide a spiritually based fellowship through which men can engage in supporting the youth, the missions, and the program of Sydenstricker. We are led by the principle established in Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” The Sydenstricker UMM regularly meet for breakfast on the fourth Saturday morning of each month to enjoy fellowship, a devotional, and a brief program. In recent months these presentations have covered Katrina Hurricane Support, Students Helping Honduras, the El Salvador Education Mission and even training dogs to detect landmines. The men’s group also sponsors Church wide activities such as the annual Sweetheart Dinner in February, the Easter morning breakfast, a July 4th picnic, and the Welcome Sunday events in September. The UMM funds its support of various youth mission projects, Vacation Bible School, and the Halloween Trunk-or-Treat evening through the management of newspaper recycling, art auctions, and sales of Christmas trees.
On any given Saturday morning members of the United Methodist Men can be seen helping to maintain the Church’s physical plant and the campus. There is an open invitation on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month when members gather for shared Bible study from 7:00 to 8:30 am. We are currently involved in preparations for the Church’s 100th anniversary in 2009. Several exciting events and programs are underway to enhance Sydenstricker’s outreach to the community.
